When setting up Prometheus monitoring, configuring metric scraping, creating recording/alert rules, or implementing service discovery for infrastructure and applications.
references/details.md for deep patterns and worked examplesA working Prometheus monitoring setup with proper metric collection, alerting, and storage strategy, plus troubleshooting via API.
Use Cases
An SRE team needs to monitor a new microservices cluster. They use this skill to configure Prometheus scrape jobs, apply consistent metric naming, set 30s scrape intervals, and define recording rules for expensive queries. The result is centralized metrics with alerting, reducing MTTR and giving clear visibility into service health.
A platform engineer must scale monitoring for a large org. Using this skill they implement Prometheus federation, HA replicas, and Thanos for long-term storage, plus relabeling to clean metrics. This provides a scalable, durable monitoring backbone that serves many teams without data loss.
