Mechanism
Breaks down how the skill works and what it produces, so you can quickly judge whether it fits your scenario and value.
When establishing reliability targets, implementing SRE practices, or measuring service performance — e.g. defining SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, or SLO-based alerts.
references/details.md for extended patternsA measurable reliability framework: defined SLIs/SLOs, calculated error budgets with policies, Prometheus rules for compliance and alerting, and a dashboard spec to monitor and balance reliability vs velocity.
Use Cases
A platform team launches a new API and needs reliability targets. They use this skill to define availability/latency SLIs with PromQL, set 99.9% SLOs, compute error budgets, and export Prometheus alerting rules. This prevents over-engineering, gives clear burn alerts, and aligns team on a data-driven reliability bar.
An SRE on-call gets paged for flaky deployments. Using the skill's error budget policy and slow/fast burn alerts, they freeze non-critical changes at 10% budget left and build a Grafana SLO dashboard. Result: fewer incidents, clear escalation, and balanced feature velocity vs stability.
